• Our Approach

The Mindful Counseling Center is a group practice committed to strengthening individuals emotional well-being, via high quality, compassionate mental health care.

The Mindful Counseling Center offers psychotherapy / counseling for individuals aged 8 years and up and for people in relationships.   We also can offer psychotherapy / counseling in group settings on different topics, as sufficient interest arises.

We focus on helping to increase our clients’ ability to live in healthy and productive ways, while reducing problematic thinking and behaviors. We seek to aid them in dealing with life’s stressors and enjoying life more, mindfully being and becoming the people they want to be. We offer them a welcoming, safe and nonjudgmental space to work through their issues and transform.

The Mindful Counseling Center also offers psychiatric services for individuals age 12 and up. Our board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner provides patients with a psychiatric evaluation while formulating a medication management plan and follow-up, as clinically indicated. This provider strives to determine what works best for patients to attain emotional wellness and stability, so they can be the best version of themselves.

We are hopeful that through our efforts, we nurture a resilient community, where individuals continuously build their confidence and ability to navigate life’s ups and downs, on their own terms, and strive for compassion, wisdom and contentment.

    Why is Mindfulness Helpful?

Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in the present moment, intentionally and without judgment. It is practiced through the observation of thoughts, emotions and sensations. Particularly over the past decade, mindfulness has worked its way into the world of mental health because of its benefits to cognition (thinking) and mental well-being (therapistaid.com).

Mindfulness techniques in therapy can be useful for people who want to increase their awareness and compassion, increase their focus and ability to cope with life stressors, and create more acceptance and joy in their lives. Practicing mindfulness in daily life can support therapeutic goals and benefits, as well as have positive impacts in other areas of life.

For one example of how mindfulness techniques can help with mental health issues, see our blog, Riding the Wave of Anxiety. For an example of one of the many activities that promote mindful living, see our blog, Cultivating Self-Compassion.
